Instructions: How To Use A Tortilla Press There truly is nothing like a homemade, authentic corn tortilla! Tortilla presses are easy to use so after reading these instructions, you&aposll have the ability to go with this awesome new addition to your kitchen. First, you&aposll either prepare the dough or get prepared dough at a local market. If you&aposll get ground corn masa, your tortillas will taste super delicious! Next, cut some wax paper so your dough doesn&apost stick to the press. Two squares of paper is enough to cover the press. Then place a sheet of wax paper on the base plate and then a ball of dough which must be the size of a golf ball (adjust to your liking). Place the other sheet over the dough and lower the top plate. Press down firmly! Flip over the tortilla with the paper and press again. The tortilla must be nice and even in thickness. After all, peel the tortilla off the wax paper and it is ready to cook. The Bruntmor cast iron skillet is perfect for cooking tortillas in! Cook over medium heat. Tortilla will be ready when it is puffed a bit. Keep them warm in a tortilla warmer or covered cloth. Cast Iron Care and Maintenance: Hand wash with mild soapy water for the first wash before the usage of. Do not use harsh soaps or scrubs because that can remove the seasoning. Do not use in dishwasher and do not soak. After first wash and use, wash with hot water and sponge to remove food residue. Dry completely as moisture will cause rusting. Place it on stove-top over low heat to dry for a couple of more minutes, then use a cloth to rub the cast iron with vegetable oil, shortening, lard or bacon grease. Heat for a couple of more minutes, remove from heat and let it cool. Wipe with cloth again to remove excess grease. Store in a dry place to prevent rusting.
